Nutiva organic non-GMO, raw, Premium Black Chia Seeds may be small, but they pack a powerful punch. These crunchy, gluten-free seeds are a rich source of protein, beneficial antioxidants, essential Omega-3 fatty acids and wholesome fiber. In fact, just 3 tablespoons of our chia seeds contain 15x more magnesium than broccoli, 6x more calcium than whole milk, 30% more antioxidants than blueberries, and twice the potassium of bananas! It’s no wonder that use of these ancient seeds can be traced back to 3500 BCE. Nutiva Organic Premium Black Chia Seeds are easy to digest whole and can be easily incorporated into vegetarian, vegan, raw, whole food, paleo-friendly, ketogenic, and gluten-free diets. Blend them into a wholesome smoothie, sprinkle them onto yogurt, or stir them into oatmeal to kick start your day. Add them to sauces as a gourmet thickener, or even use them in baked goods as a replacement for egg. Nutiva’s products are always certified organic, non-GMO, unrefined, vegan, raw, and never processed using hexane or other dangerous chemicals. Nutiva was founded in 1999 with a single purpose in mind – to Revolutionize the Way the World Eats. We produce organic, nutrient-dense foods that are good for you and good for the planet. An excellent supplement for energy and weight loss.
I’m not going to heavily break down the nutritional benefits of this product – because you likely wouldn’t be looking at this product if you haven’t already at least read an article or two about Chia seeds and their benefits – if not conducted more substantial personal research. What the Nutiva brand offers is a high quality (organic), reasonably-priced product. These seeds are slightly larger than some of the other brands I’ve shopped. These are marketed as “black” seeds – why they market both black and white seeds is unknown to me because I haven’t found any advantage of one colored seed over another – which essentially makes this marketing point irrelevant (at least to me). The “black” seed product isn’t 100% black seed either – there’s a mix of seed colors; mostly black, but plenty of grey, brownish, off-white and white seeds in the mix.I’ve been making what I call “seed juice” for a couple years now. I hydrate the seeds for about 10-15 minutes and then mix in my favorite organic juice. Chia seeds give me a noticeable energy boost in the morning, that lasts all day. I would caution individuals who consume large amounts of caffeine to reduce their intake before consuming Chia seeds, because the energy boost has proven to be synergistic. In fact, I made the mistake of consuming multiple doses of Chia seeds (mixed with juice) over the course of a day, and found it almost impossible to go to sleep that night – symptoms similar to a near caffeine overdose I experienced in college. None of the nausea, but all of the insomnia and jitters. So I recommend using the same reasonable consumption guidelines as with caffeine: moderate consumption and avoid consumption after lunch.I have noticed since supplementing my diet with Chia seeds, that my body fat percentage has decreased by 7% and my muscle index has increased by approximately 5%. Changing nothing else in my diet, my weight has gone from 168lbs to 153lbs over 2 years. Chia has helped me control my weight, likely due to the increase in fiber and protein, and my appetite has moderated. If you’re looking for a crash diet – this likely won’t help much. If you’re looking for a long-term supplement that will help increase your energy levels while helping you slowly and permanently reduce your body weight – then this is a smart addition to a longterm plan and commitment to improve your overall health and wellbeing.

Updated for awesome!
I ended up changing my review. In my original review I was happy but waiting for the end of the bag to reach a verdict. These are excellent! I use them to help keep things moving along as well as a quick snack during the middle of the night or fits of nausea (which despite being second trimester still happens occasionally. In addition I add them to my super smoothies for a way to get a lot of food in a small amount. They gel up fairly fast and really have no discernable taste (except in water alone then its plain nasty!) I have mixed them with a variety of beverages and they taste like the beverage. The only other thing that I have noticed is when these are mixed with juice or milk it’s exceptionally filling. And it does give a mild boost to energy for a few hours kinda like a cup of mild tea, being pregnant I have noticed it a bit more due to severely depleted energy levels. Will definitely keep ordering these as it is well worth the cost.

Never Considered Myself a Health Nut Before…
I started getting into chia seeds about a month ago due to boost of energy. I also was working out several times per week at high intensity, which left my muscles sore (GOOD sore, but still sore) for days afterward. Chia seeds have lots of protein in them, I heard, so I started mixing them into my water that I bring to the gym. They are very light seeds, very small, and have a very slight nutty flavor- almost unnoticeable flavor. If you wait 15 minutes, the chia seeds absorb the water and become a jelly consistency. Sort of like the “skin” on the top of pudding when cooked on the stove. A little bit chewy. They remain pretty small, though, so it’s still easy to drink. I put 3 tbsp of chia seeds into my 32 oz of water, and I find it fun to drink. When I was doing frappuccinos, for example, I would do the java chip versus the plain coffee frap- cuz I liked having the texture in the drink to chew. Are you a pulp or no-pulp orange juice drinker? This is sort of like that.Well, despite doing lots of cardio and exercise, while eating healthfully, my cholesterol is raised and no longer benefiting from my current lifestyle. I’ve only been drinking chia seeds for about a month (and it’s been TWO months since I got my last blood labs) and I am excited to see if the addition of chia seeds (as well as flax seeds) have improved my cholesterol panel. In the least, I feel more energy, my muscles ache less after and during workouts, since adding chia seeds. And this package is much more affordable than the grocery store. – and I thank you for that because sometimes eating healthfully can be expensive. I’m paying about $1 per oz at the grocery store. Here, it’s about 65 cents per oz. Deal.
