A Good, Inexpensive Mount For Suitable Applications
This is a review of the Kaistyle Mount 2BDOG-G18This unit is designed to allow mounting on a somewhat curved surface.The design is very similar to that of the Scosche MPQMRDV-SP MagicMountâ¢, with exceptions: ⢠No car power adapter is included, nor is a cable mounting clip. ⢠Uses a 17mm ball and socket joint, with the ball on the end of a short stud that is part of the base, which mounts to the dash and the socket being part of the piece that holds the cell phone. ⢠The unit has a USB-C socket, instead of having a permanently attached cable. ⢠Does not claim Qi2 compatibility. ⢠Was able to purchase for less than 1/2 the price.Also includes are a USB charging cable, cleaning wipes, a metallic ring for phones lacking a MagSafe Style ring, a template for attaching the ring, and a vent mount.The USB charging cable is about 1m in length, has a USB-C connector on one end and a USB-A on the other.Suitable Applications:A good solution for those applications where having the cell phone centered above the dash front, close to the dash edge, is desirable. Only works with the AC mount ðð»
This product claims to give you options: AC mount or dash mount. The AC mount consists of a piece of plastic that has a metal hook where you stick the hook to the back of your AC vent and attach it that way. I didnât want to use the AC mount, and I wouldnât have been able to even if I did because the hook is less than a half inch long and my AC Vent blades are much wider than that (I drive a Jeep wrangler and the vent blades and an inch long or longer). I needed to use the dash mount, except I was mounting it to my windshield not my dash. The ball joint on the dashboard attachment is slightly bigger than the ball joint on the AC attachment. To the naked eye, you canât even really see it. It was only after experimenting and fiddling with this thing for over a week I realized that the ball was ever-so-slightly bigger. Itâs basically useless with the dash mount. Due to the ball joint being a little bit bigger, what happens is the plastic nut will not thread onto the body, so you cannot tighten it, which means your phone is sorta just hanging on and bouncing around as the car drives along. Not good. Unfortunately, by the time I diagnosed the problem I had surpassed my window to return it. In order to make it work, I had to bust out my dremel tool and use a sandpaper attachment to sand down the little ball joint to make it smaller. Once I did that, I was barely able to thread the nut onto the rest of the device, but without doing that it was literally impossible and quite useless. 1/10 would not recommend.
