Great for travels
I’ve been into photography for quite some time now and have been looking for a camera since I started. I have done hours of research and came into conclusion that this was the one, as it was a reasonable price yet pretty strong for its type. The main thing that made me decide to get this one was the focus ability and let me tell you, it is insane how well it works. It focus very quickly and it is almost always spot-on on fast moving targets. The kit lens that came with it (18-135mm 3.5-5.6) also has pretty good sharpness to it pretty much the whole way, only complaint is the small aperture which leaves a lot to be desired. But nothing a prime lens can’t solve. Only thing that I don’t like about the camera is the fact that it overheats very quickly. It only lasts about 40m at 4K 60fps continuous shooting. So if you mainly want to do video, go for the FX30 as overheating is not an issue on that one. And finally, the area where it shines. It is very portable; bigger than its predecessors but almost not noticeable. I can go a whole day of shooting photos while walking around town, something that bothered me with my old DSLR full frame Canon. overall great small camera with great portability. Strongly recommend it.

Great camera!
Love this camera, upgraded from an a6000. The build quality is excellent, the menu system is intuitive. Love the ai autofocus, does a great job.

Fantastic feature packed hybrid shooter
This is a really great camera! I’m coming from an a6100 so the resolution bump is minimal, as expected, but every other aspect of this camera is a step up compared to previous a6000 series cameras. The autofocus is truly the best I’ve seen on any camera; it’s not just the speed that impresses me, it’s the accuracy and reliability as well. Previous a6000 cameras only had face and human eye detect, but this has animal/bird/car/plane/train detection as well. Reviewers mostly glossed over this but, imo this is a major feature. I can just point my camera in the general direction of my subject and it will lock on and automatically maintain focus without me having to do much of anything, meaning I can focus on composition while the camera focuses on well –focusing.Another thing I love about this camera is the IBIS. Although I have lenses that feature OSS, having IBIS can add even more stabilization, resulting in sharper photos. In some cases, it’s going to be a minor difference but it works well for the most part and I appreciate that. The speed of the camera is also quite snappy. Everything from navigating menus and saving data to the SD card, it all just works really quickly so it feels like the camera is always ready to snap a quick shot/record a video.Lastly and most importantly is the shutter sound. It’s a deep, satisfying clunk that makes you feel like you’re really taking a picture. It’s the sound of love.If you’re an e-mount shooter with a bunch of APS-C lenses, this is the camera to get.

Great camera but overheats
Update-This camera is not worth it. Overheats all the time. Not even my a6400 or zv-e10 did this and they are twice as cheaper.I really like the build, the camera feels solid, I get good video from the camera, very minimal rolling shutter, love the ibis; but watch out for the overheating. If video is more your thing, I would go for the fx30.

Pro performance in a small package. The long awaited touch function is very much welcomed.
This is not a beginner’s camera. If you don’t understand the difference between a phone camera and a mirrorless or a DLSR camera, don’t buy it unless you are willing to invest time to learn it. I have always said, a better camera does not guarantee you’ll get better photos if you don’t know how to use it. This type of camera are not simple point and shoot cameras, they can be, but they really aren’t. The main reason to buy a camera like this is to capture images that are not possible with a phone or a basic point-and-shoot camera. The difference is that phones and point-and-shoot cameras don’t require that you know where your focus is, you simply shoot and everything in front of you is in focus all the way to infinity. With cameras like this, and some premium point-and-shoot cameras with large sensors, you need to know what you want in focus, and usually, everything else will likely be out of focus, unless you specifically set the camera to get more in focus by closing the aperture.I had to say that. Now to the actual review. The good:1. Touch menus. Yes! IT WAS ABOUT TIME.2. Vari-angle screen. I did not know I was missing it because I never had one. No camera should be made without one.3. Better menu organization – Still expansive but better organized.4. On screen quick menu during operation is much welcomed. It makes changing basic settings a breeze not having to dig through the menu.5. Front dial. Yes! Now I can quickly change aperture and shutter speed using the front and back dial and still have the back wheel for additional quick adjustments during shutting. Nice.6. IBIS, yeah baby. Not the best but better than nothing. I can not use my non stabilized lenses when I normally wouldn’t.7. Larger battery. Nice to have. I use a dummy battery for recording long performances but I probably wont’ need one for this camera; 2 or 3 batteries should suffice.8. Less rolling shutter effect – Main reason for me to get this camera. Now I’ll wait till Sony puts the global shutter on an aps-c body and hope it is prices similarly to this one.9. Emphasized REC Display – shows a red frame around the screen to show that you are recording. Needs to be configured in the options.10. Speedy focus system. It was already good but now it is better.11. More video recording options with some downsides. The bad.1. It overheats quickly when shooting video in 4:2:2, 10-bit. I shoot 4K 4:2:0 in 8-bit to avoid overheating.2. It overheats even faster when using external monitor or external charger.3. Ergonomics aren’t that good. I don’t like sharper edges on the thumb rest because I have small hands and that is where my palm rests, but I will probably get used to it.4. Was it really necessary to remove the flash? I use external flash but it is nice to have the built in one in a pinch.6. This has nothing to do with the camera. RAW files not supported by most applications yet.7. This is my problem. The video editor I use does not support 4:2:2 nor 10-Bit video files. I guess it is time to upgrade programs.8. It would be nice to have a tally light in the front and back when recording.9. Why can’t I customize the on-screen menus? Come on Sony, you almost had it.

The camera itself is amazing but for some reason the Amazon packaging was atrocious. They put the camera box inside of a bigger box with no padding. The camera was banging against the insides of the Amazon packaging. The camera is perfect though, I would argue it is the best value for money you can have. Whatever feature you would want in your camera, this one has it. Portability, stabilization, advanced auto-focus, easy to understand menus, flip touch screen, 10-bit colors, s-log, great for photos, great for videos and multiple options for wired/wireless connectivity.
