Light enough to hand hold. Excellent image quality. Works great on the R5m2 and R7.
It’s bulky in size, but not annoying to use hand held if you are used to using the longer white telephoto lenses. I still suggest using a mono pod or some type of brace if possible. Was very responsive and easy to use, and really sharp on the R5m2 and R7. Works great also on the R6m2 and R8.Had no flaring issues, even with the sun behind the subject or backlight. Keeper rate was high and most any issues I had was user error over the lens being the issue. I normally shoot from 10mm~200mm as my work breadbasket so it was easy to tell the lens was trying it’s best to deal with my personal shortcomings.IS is pretty great on it. Was able to get sharp images at 1/50th while shooting 800mm. I am using bodies with in built IS so there is some extra compensation. There was zoom creep and I didn’t see a zoom lock on it, so that was the only annoying thing while using it. Takes a 95mm filter so pairs well with the 28-70 f2 filter wise. This lens is very much a step up from the RF 100-400 I had for casual wildlife photos before this and was well worth the upgrade.Shots posted are from the local Zoo straight out of camera with a Canon R5 Mark II.

    Heaven
I’ve been shooting for decades, but never had a lens this long. It’s opened up a range of possibilities. Image quality is fantastic. Not an L lens, but you would never know. Various reviews comment on its light weight, which I guess is comparatively true, but hand held it’s a handful. Say hello to my little monopod. Other reviews don’t like the zoom ring throw, but I find that not an issue at all. A reasonable zoom of, say, 400 to 800 doesn’t take much travel at all. Wonderful piece of glass.

    Its OK but….
I have been using the lens for mostly bird photos. I like the lens. Responses will with the camera. Drawbacks, the ring for tripod does not come off. Thought that would be OK but finding it gets in the way. I wish the lens zoom had a lock so it doesn’t always extend when pointed down. The biggest drawback is the number of turns you must do to get to full extension. Can be a issue for the wrist. On the positive side, weight is good for this type of less. Glass quality is very good. Autofocus response with camera is very good. If your interested in buying, go online and watch evaluation/review videos.

    Huge Reach!
If you’re looking at this lens, it’s for the 800mm reach, probably for birds and wildlife. I just got it and took it out for some birding. I used it on the R7 for a 1280mm field of view on the long end. I’m happy with how it performed. Autofocus was speedy and performed well. I’m coming from a first version EF 100-400. So that’s all I have to compare the autofocus to. It was faster and more accurate. But not by miles. F9 is not great but that’s the trade off and you know it going in. You’re going to have to use high ISO. Today was overcast but I was able to stay at ISO 1600 and get nice shots. Of course it would have been better with more light, but with the great IS of the lens and R7 you can get by with a lower shutter speed. The female Norther Harrier was shot at 800mm f9 ISO 1600 1/640. It was pretty still on the perch so it worked. If it was in flight I would have needed ISO 3200 at least, and even then have to work to get a good shot. So yes, f9 is something you’ll have to work with. If you use it on an R5 or 6 it will be better but then you’ll loose the reach of the R7. You’ll probably need noise reduction, I use camera raw and while it’s slow on my PC the results are good. None of these images used it though. Overall it’s a great lens and I had a great time using it today and look forward to many more days of fun with it. There’s no other way to get this reach for anywhere near this price. If you want something faster, get this and rent a 600 f4 or 800 f5.6 for a day to get it out of your system. Then enjoy the fact you can carry this around and use it all the time.

    No regret
Best lens I own. I use this for birding and it’s pretty good when I have a lot of light. Light weight compared to my sigma 150-600.

    Amazing lens
I’ve only had the time to run out real quick after work twice but man this lens is awesome. I think the pictures speak for themselves. On the downside any pictures that don’t turn out I can’t blame on the equipment.

This lens is great, especially for the price. I have only been using it for a week and so am still getting used to it but it is exactly what I was looking for.

Very good lenses. Much better than F11 800 prime I own. Faster and AF visibly better. Feels professional even if it isn’t marked so.
