Nice Gimbal
The only problem I’ve encountered with this so far is that the joystick on the gimbal is also a button, and it’s a very easy button to press which then changes the gimbal mode. I will need to learn to be extremely delicate with the joystick as to not change the mode when I’m only trying to rotate the camera. Other than that it’s great so far.

Pretty good but not MagSafe
Pros:- Functions for panning up/down/left/right and device stabilization can used WITHOUT with the app.- Connects via bluetooth under the name SMART_X (which can NOT be changed).- After attaching your phone to balance the gimal, load the Aochuan app. The app will either automatically connect to bluetooth and load the recording app. If it doesn’t, try manually connecting SMART_X bluetooth first.- From the the Aochuan recording app, you can then use the gimbal’s record, and zoom in/out features (in addition to the pan left/right/up/down.- Comes with a tripod that can be mounted either on the end or side of the gimbal- You can take off the cover to remove the 18650 battery, but not sure how to take the battery out – hopefully will never need to replace- Be sure to first remove the battery block sticker and then fully charge the device before first use. Also, attach the phone to the gimbal. It’s kind of “stuck” if you don’t this initial step. You can download the app later after experimenting.- The instruction manual is actually very excellent, 12 “pages” for everything in English- Pressing the joystick toogles the modes: PF / F / L / POV and also represent the battery life (when the device is charging) – PF: Fan Follow mode / 20% battery – F: Follow mode / 50% battery – L: Full-Lock mode / 70% battery – POV: POV mode / 100% battery- Comes with a magnetic fill light that attaches to the gimbal- Double-clicking on the red/record button toggles between portrait and landscape mode- Short-pressing the power button toggles the gimbal light to low, medium, high, off. Long-pressing will turn off the gimbal.- When using the app, it has a lot of videos on how to use the deviceCons:- Needs to be secured with the bracket arms, not magnetic/MagSafe :-(- It will fit an iPhone XS Max and 16 Pro Max but without the case- The Bluetooth name of the device is SMART-X which can NOT be changed in bluetooth settingsProduct Specification: Product Size – Unfolded 268 * 125 * 65 mm Product Size – Folded 158 * 108 * 55 mm Weight 295g Max weight â¤250g Working hours 7-9 hours Charging time About 2.5 hours Operation voltage 3.7V Power input 5V/2A Operation temperature 0°C~45°C Li-battery – 18650 3.7V/2600mAh Matched phone size 55-90mm Angle precision 0.1° Mechanical pan angle 310° Mechanical roll angle 330° Mechanical tilt angle 345° Controllable pan angle 310° Controllable roll angle 330° Controllable tilt angle 76°Note: 18650 batteryAn 18650 battery is a type of lithium-ion rechargeable battery. The numbers “18650” refer to the battery’s dimensions: it is 18mm in diameter and 65mm in length.

Good value for money. Honestly though, save up and get something with more polish …
11/7/2024 : Testing with iPhone 15 Pro (with case). At $84.99 (before 25% coupon) at the time of writing, it seems like pretty good value for money if you are looking to get a 3-axis gimbal mount with face/body tracking. The difference between the “kit” and the non-kit seems to be only the additional magnetic light. I’m not sure you will need it, but, if you’re getting this, why not get it as well, who knows? I mounted my phone and read through the manual. Then, I came here to see their videos, I strongly suggest watching their videos, since a lot of material is missing from the printed manual! The face tracking is pretty good, but you need to first install the app, then pair bluetooth in the ios settings (it doesn’t show up within the app for some reason). The app is not too easy to follow, but also not that bad, you can figure things out by pressing here and their. You have to give permission for camera/microphone/photos in order to access camera from within the app, which is the only way to use the tracking features. The zoom worked, the 360 rotation works, everything seems to work, so I think it’s a pretty good deal, but you will lose out on some polish from the popular higher end competitor. What I was a little sad about was that it uses an old-school clamp instead of mag-safe; having mag-safe would make the whole installation so much easier. But, for that you need to go with something almost twice the price (I haven’t used those higher end models yet, so whether those are twice as good, I do not know). I like that you can mount his on the tiny tripod, or on your own full tripod. To be honest, this plus your own tripod is probably a much better value for money than the selfie-stick style rotating tracking models (single access model). I will be perfectly honest, if I were to be spending my own hard earned cash, I would save up for the popular brand that has mag-safe attachments and probably a much more polished all round experience. Since I was able to get this on vine, I am trying to get a variety of perspectives on what is available. I will give this 5-stars, because at the price it is pretty great value, and you’ll definitely have a lot of fun. Just make sure it has everything that you need. I have recorded some face-tracking etc samples, but will add those to a video review later. I feel a little sad giving this recommendation, because clearly AOCHUAN has tried hard to provide a compelling product at a reasonable price. If they could push just a liiiiitle bit more on the features (magsafe, better stability/rotation), and a bit more polish on the app, this would make a lot more sense for saving yourself some cash. I haven’t done any timelapse videos, but if you look at how poorly the app is rated, just be prepared for some bugs to pop up at regular enough intervals to make you wish you had spent more… is my initial impression. I will try to use this a bit more, and provide updates along the way.

A well made 3 axis gimbal that smooths out phone camera movement to make a much more stable video. The gimbal comes with a page of instructions that is very minimal and directs you to find a tutorial video on YouTube. Setting up was fairly straightforward and it requires an accompanying app called âAOCHUANâ in order to connect the gimbal to the phone and use controls like start/stop recording and zoom in/out. Setting up the gimbal with bluetooth was simple and I didnât come across any issues using the app.The gimbal folds up nicely and weighs 360g on its own. It comes with a little tripod stand that can be attached to the standard 1/4â thread on the bottom of the gimbal. It also has another 1/4â thread on the side of the gimbal to attach any other camera attachments. The gimbal is charged via a USB-C port and it has a openable battery compartment that allows you to replace the rechargeable battery inside with a 18650 battery if it ever dies. Overall construction feels solid with no loose or rattley parts. On the gimbal handle there are a good number of controls. There is a physical zoom in/out slider, record button, power button, and a joystick that controls the gimbal camera angles. All the controls feel fairly sturdy, but I would imagine that the first point of failure would be the joystick. There are 4 immediately apparent modes PF, F, L, and POV.PF stands for âPan Followâ (incorrectly labelled as âFan Followâ in the instructions) which means it will try to remain stable in all axes except for the âpanâ motion which is the left/right turning motion so you can smoothly pan the recording.F stands for âFull Followâ meaning the gimbal will turn your camera smoothly to whichever way you point the gimbal.L stands for âLockâ which makes the gimbal attempt to keep the camera point in whatever orientation it is currently at. This lets you move and twist the gimbal around and the camera should remain pointing in the same direction until the gimbal hits its âangle limitsâ. The angle limits are the max the gimbal can twist and tilt.In the previous 3 mentioned modes using the joystick control lets you adjust the camera pan left/right and tilt it up/down. In POV mode (standing for âPoint Of Viewâ) it acts very similar to the Full Follow mode where it the camera will smoothly turn to where the gimbal is facing except the joystick will now rotate the camera so you can shoot a dutch angle if you want.Aside from the 4 main modes there is a fun little mode you can access by clicking the joystick in 3 times called âinception modeâ. I imagine this is actually just inspired by the movie âInceptionâ where there is a scene where a hallway is rotating and people are walking on the walls and ceiling. This makes the camera angle slowly rotate 180 degrees at a set speed. This phone gimbal works well and is well made, no issues or complaints aside that it should come with better instructions in the box instead of having to seek out tutorial videos online.

It feels like really good quality, follows with ease I had to watch a YouTube video for instructions but once you get the hang of it nice bit of kit

This is a review of the Aochuan Smart gimbal stabilizer for smart phones. I tested this with a few different phones. I used a Samsung S23 and A54, as well as an Umidigi A11.The gimbal can be folded down so it is more compact and easy to carry, but you do not receive a case with this one. You do receive a small plastic tripod that can be screwed into the handle and adds an extra 3.5″ to the 4.5″ handle, the battery, and a USB A to USB C charging cable. The entire construction is a textured plastic that helps you to grip the device and cuts down on weight but possibly at the cost of durability. This uses three axis or stabilization including tilt (pitch), pan (rotation) and roll. There are 4 modes that set how this operates, a Pan-Follow mode, a Full follow mode (one I use the most) a full Lock and a POV mode. By single clicking the joystick, you scroll through these modes. Orientation can be set to either landscape or portrait, and you can switch between the two settings by a simple double click of the record button. When filming with this you do get a much “smoother” image that is free of jittery footage. Just make sure you balance your phone when you first attach it, I also calibrated the gimbal when first using it (press joystick up and power at same time, then hold folding arm horizontal to ground and press the record button once, let it do it’s thing without touching anything else). Not sure it was necessary but there was an online video about doing this so I did it.There are a couple of really nice features built into this. It has a built in fill light that works well in low light conditions and has 3 different brightness settings. On the back side of the light (against your phone) is a magnetic charging disk that can use the gimbals removable 2600mah battery to charge your phone (this battery can be replaced during long recording sessions, but you will have to buy additional batteries separately). The Aochuan app integrates your phone with the gimbal through Bluetooth connection. This adds features like facial tracking, object tracking, body tracking and gesture controls. The attached video is an example where I had the A54/gimbal set to facial tracking mode in the app. It recognized the toy Grogu’s face and the gimbal smoothly tracked as I moved it around the toy. Very cool!I do have couple of issues with the gimbal. The biggest problem with this is the limited tilt or pitch ability. It can not point very far down or up and when at its extremes, it seems to lose it’s self and can go a little crazy when moved (see the photo with phone mounted, this is the extreme down angle possible) . The other thing I found is that it doesn’t work well when your phone is in a case except a very minimal one. The fingers on the phone clamp are short and shallow, and on all the phones I tested, interfere with the use of the buttons on the side when the phone is balanced in the arm (if you don’t balance it, the battery will drain much quicker). Gesture control is pretty cool, but I found it to be a bit hit and miss on a couple of them. The palm gesture to start and stop recording works well, but the two thumbs up and Ok gesture for switching orientation and video/picture mode respectively, only work about half the time. The last issue I have is with the zoom switch on this. No matter which setting I use for zoom speed, it is not a “smooth” zooming in and out, but a very obvious “stepped” zoom. Not sure if this is due to the phone or the gimbal.Once you take the time to set this up correctly, both physically (balance the phone) and electronically (calibration and app settings) it does a very good job of stabilizing and removing shakes from your videos but with some limitations (maybe there will be a firmware update that allows more tilt as it isn’t a limitation of the hardware that I can tell)). Aochuan has other models with additional features that you may want to consider (carrying case, extendable grips, AI tracking, independent focus) for not a lot more money.I am not a professional user or a content creator, and thisis my first experience with a gimbal. I usually don’t have many issues with figuring out technology, but this does have a learning curve and the manual does not provide a lot of guidance. There are some decent videos online to help get you going though. I mainly want nice smooth videos that look a little better, and this does help do that once you figure it out, at a good price.

I do not use my phone caseless and have Spigen Rugged Armor case on it which rather thin and does have grippy sides.Unfortunately, the phone pops out from the claw, not a secure fit.The shape of the claw also makes it awkward to find a good positioning for the phone for it not to press the volume buttons nor the new camera oneâ¦Iâm quite gutted as the product seems very well made, all functionality works great and was looking forward on using it on all our excursions for a bit more of a professional shot with the extra stabilisation when rewatching in 20 yearsâ¦Iâm also not willing to use it without a case as the claw sides are a little curved and I donât want the pressure against the phone directly and want a case to absorb it to even it out.So far only used over the bed to test features which are great, but canât really use it when out and about which is of course the intended purpose unless I find some case that will work just to use this gimbalâ¦If you have an iPhone without the new camera button then it will probably be a better fit. Not sure if it would fit the 16PM with a case at all.Iphone 16 models arenât listed in the compatibility list in the ad, but I assume itâs because product was released before the phones and it also mentions that not all compatible models are listed.I think for a product of £££ value, the list should be maintained and explicitly state if it will fit with or only without a case.
