I bought the 16 Pro Max directly from Apple not from this seller.I started the setup procedure and immediately ran into issues. The phone went to update the software and locked up. It would not respond at all. Then when i rebooted the phone by holding the on/off/power button for a while, it went into a buggy loop of not getting past the swipe-to-open screen. It was a bad loop and or defect in the touch screen.I went to the Apple store and had to schedule a same day appointment with their techs. The person that checked me in couldn’t get past that swipe-to-open screen as well too despite rebooting the phone.This speaks to the quality of the phones now since they are exclusively made in India now….more coming about this.Eventually 2.5 hours later I meet with the tech and they couldn’t do anything and immediately offered to replace the phone. Meaning they had to refund my purchase and reprocess a new transaction. There goes my 180 trade in program i intended to do, but now i doubted that i wanted to trade in my old phone for this latest version phone. I may want to keep it around in case this 16 pro max craps out again.So they get me the new phone and i go home to set it up. A few hours later i was finally up and running…….6 days later…a groove formed in the upper right corner of the screen under the cell signal, wifi, and battery icon. When i saw it, i noticed extremely tiny chards of glass all over the surface of the screen and the groove was rather like a deep gouge. I had not dropped it. I had not put it near any kind of object that would scratch it. It was only on my night stand and I just woke up and took it with me to another room. There was absolutely no way I caused the deep gouge as I didn’t put it near anything or didn’t put anything near it.I highly suspect it’s a high pressure point in the manufacturing, the glass is of low quality, and the glass simply gave out in that area at that point in time and exploded the tiny chards of glass all over the screen. It’s like a 3/4″ line on my screen. I thought long an had about bringing it back to Apple, but there’s no way they would accept it back as a manufacturer defect as the screen is still functional. Also how can i prove it occurred on its own versus them blaming me?!Many of the reviews I’ve read on Apple’s site state these 16 pro max phones all scratch very easily compared to prior models and also if you bring it back to the store, they won’t replace it cause it’s technically still working. I also thought about getting the Apple Care briefly, fixing it, and then canceling the subscription. But I do wonder the quality of the replacement as well.The latest iPhones (16x and most 15x) are all made in India and I highly suspect the quality has gone to the crapper. Previously they were made in China and I heard that Apple is now in the process of returning production back to China because of India quality issues. However no one knows when that will happen and what model phones will be affected.I’ve your patient, you should hold out…you’ve been warned,
