A bit on the flimsy side, but worth every penny to Samsung TV owners
First off, if you’re buying this GE remote just to replace a Samsung remote, this GE remote does a great job of that but you’re better off buying a genuine Samsung remote since the genuine Samsung remotes are more durable than this one. This GE remote copies the same layout of BN-type Samsung remotes and it works perfectly on my Samsung TV. The back button works as it should, unlike the other GE remotes on Amazon. Every button does everything as it should, and I notice this remote does a speedy job of going through the menus on my 2019 Samsung TV running Tizen. I never felt like this remote couldn’t keep up with how fast I went through the TV’s OS. This GE isn’t backlit except the power button which lights up red, but then again, the BN-type remotes aren’t backlit either. Overall, this is a great Samsung TV remote replacement, but if you want something sturdier, get the original Samsung remote. However, if you need to control more than just your Samsung TV, keep reading! This GE/Jasco remote is a bit on the flimsy side but it’s sturdy enough for daily use. I would compare it to the build quality of a Fire TV stick remote. It’s a lightweight plastic that feels sturdy enough for daily use, but if you have kids or a dog who love to destroy remotes, this remote won’t last as long as the genuine Samsung remotes, which use a harder, thicker, heavier plastic body. The buttons on this GE remote are also pretty decent and feel like they will last, but the buttons on the original Samsung BN-type remotes feel more robust, better textured, and purposely designed. Are the buttons on the GE remote bad? Not at all! They feel good as you navigate menus on your TV, but they just don’t feel as good as the buttons on the Samsung remote, which are more raised, rounded, textured and uniquely shaped. Overall, you’re not buying this GE remote for the build quality, but the quality you get is definitely worth the 8 bucks, especially the next aspect of this remote…The real value of this 8 dollar GE remote is that not only does it do a perfect job of replacing the functions of a BN-type Samsung TV remote, but it also lets you control 3 other devices, which the BN-type remotes do not do. I was able to control a Bose mini system and an Xfinity X1 XG1v4 box with this remote. Does it have ALL the functions of the original Bose and Xfinity remotes? Nope. Does it do the essentials, like turning the devices on, changing the volume on the mini system and changing the channels on the Xfinity box? Yes, absolutely. If you want to control a bunch of things along with your Samsung TV remote, this GE remote actually works. It won’t be as robust as an 300 dollar Harmony remote, but it costs only 8 bucks. It’s worth every penny.

Roku comptable, Vizio Compatible and Electric Fireplace Compatible?
I use this as the “one ring” remote in my living room. I have a 4K HD Roku and it is compatible for basic actions that I use 99% of the time. Gosh darn though, when I need to hit that Disney+ button it’s just not there (eyeroll). The Roku remote fits in the bottom just fine although I never use it. The Roku will complain that the remote is “not optimized blah blah” but that is just Roku being dorks and not liking you using a different remote.Funny enough, when I paired this remote with my Vizio soundbar, the same code controls my electric fireplace so that was a problem. I was able to use a second Vizio codeset that didn’t conflict thank goodness.

It doesn’t work with Fire Tv
Describe says it works with most Fire Tv remotes. That may be true. But if you bought your fire stick or a Fire TV cube recently it will not work. The way it works is your fire remote slips into the back. You use that to control your fire stick or firebox flip it over. It can show us your TV except the newer fire stick remotes are too big to fit in the case there’s no way you can fit it in. This flip thing. Sounds like fun but it really doesn’t work.

Roku tv with Fire- it works
I have a TCL brand Roku tv. I have a Fire TV 4k stick added to it by HDMI. I can’t speak to a Fire TV that has a Roku stick added to it.The issue- TCL Roku tv requires multiple remotes to switch inputs and control Firestick.Solved.Takeaway: Cheap and does what it says it does but not without some intervention and compromise.ProThis remote- GE Universal Remote Control with Roku or Fire TV Streaming Remote Compartment- allows for control of the Roku tv using the code provided in the GE remote instructions. The firestick- Amazon Fire TV Stick 4K- continues to work using the remote that is provided with the Firestick. That remote in now retained within the GE remote body. The Fire remote control face is open for use on the back of the GE remote.I still have to use two remotes to control the tv and the Firestick but the convenience of having both in one remote “package” can’t be understated. That’s particularly true since the GE remote body is large thus making it easier to locate fumbling around in a dimly lit room than the two little remotes that it replaces.Less proBoth remotes are battery powered, each separately. If the batteries on the Fire remote fail that requires opening up the GE remote to remove the Fire remote and then opening up the Fire remote to change its batteries. The GE remote uses two AA batteries, the Fire remote uses two AAA batteries. This all would be a minor inconvenience except for a con that will follow. The Fire remote is plastic but feels of much better quality than the GE remote, also plastic. The button feel of the GE is spongy and the GE material is not rigid. At this price point I’m not being supercritical but since I have two remotes in one package it’s easy to see the quality differences between them.No backlighting- I knew this before purchase so no demerits. The thing is, both the original Roku/TCL remote and the Fire remote offer around twenty buttons each. In practice we use less than half of those buttons. It doesn’t take long to learn your way around the remotes by feel so backlighting isn’t a necessity. The GE remote offers about 50 buttons. Again, hardly any are used regularly but that’s a lot of real estate to learn your way around by fingertip recognition in the semi darkness. Showstopper? No. Less than ideal- definitely.ConThe GE remote comes with a plastic cradle that you are instructed to use if necessary to cradle the remote being placed into it, in my case the Fire remote. I tried to put the Fire remote without it and it flopped around in the GE cavity like a hot dog thrown down a hallway. I put the GE cradle into the cavity per the directions and placed the Fire remote into that cradle. I could not reassemble the GE remote cover over the Fire remote with the cradle in place. The cradle pushes the face of the Fire remote out of the profile of the GE remote. I did eventually succeed in getting the Fire remote to fit. That required a Dremel tool and some excessive surgery to the cradle to reduce the depth of it and to saw it in half to reduce contact points between the cradle and the cavity. The Fire remote fits the cavity snugly, it looks correct in its perch. I would have happily paid another couple of dollars for a cradle provided with the GE remote that worked out of the box instead of having to whittle on the cradle provided. That work got me a usable combo remote but it was a battle and the result requires me to be very deliberate with hand pressure on the GE remote when I take the back cover on and off. Due to the GE remote materials being of dubious quality I suspect that its life expectancy is reduced each time I open it up for battery changes. We’ll see.Do not lose the directions. My GE remote loses its connection to the Roku tv when I use “Backdrops”, a Roku app. I have to set the GE remote up again using the code and that restores it. It may be my unit only or indicative of bugs in the GE programming. I turned off Backdrops and haven’t had that problem since but who knows what else, if anything, will cause the GE remote to lose its connection to the tv.
