Works to make a specialty non-smart bulb, smart
I have a lightbulb in my chandelier that I wanted to have smart control over, but the bulb is a special one that I can not buy as a smart bulb. This device was perfect to give me smart control over the bulb. I just had to spray paint it black so it blends in, but it works perfect for what I needed it to do.

Simple and Effective
I bought this to automate my kitchen ceiling fixture and it works just as it’s supposed to. I’d originally put a “150W equivalent” smart LED bulb in the fixture, but it wasn’t nearly bright enough, so I switched back to the very bright LED bulb I’d been using. It’s not a dimmer. It doesn’t change colors. It’s a simple on-off relay that you can hear “click” when it operates. Setup was a snap; my Alexa recognized it before I’d even screwed the light bulb in. Simple. Functional. Easy.

Plan for Your Device Setup Someplace Close and Convenient to the Router
I bought this because it’s the perfect solution for the overhead garage porcelain socket with a pull string. After 70 years it didn’t work so well–or at all sometimes–and I was ecstatic to get the LED 3-panel paddle light I had in the socket to turn on and off with commands to Alexa. I’ve used the Smart Life app to prep devices for Amazon Alexa before, and this device worked with it. BUT, this device was a bit more challenging to install. If possible, use an existing lamp near the router to “pair” (calm word to describe getting your router to recognize and assign a local IP address to the smart socket). Close to the router and convenient is better than far away and on the ceiling. Press the pairing button and begin the install on Smart Life by pressing the “+” symbol at top right. Once paired, you can finish the install on Smart Life by giving the device a name you will use in Alexa. When you then go to Alexa, that app will recognize new devices on the network and will already have that name you gave it. And you’re done. In my case, I was the full distance from the router and working with the ceiling socket. Something went wrong or wasn’t recognized. It ended up locking up my router interface while it was trying to assign the IP address. Once I recognized that I reset the router (you won’t have to do that if you are reading this), moved the whole operation onto a desktop and it all worked well. I then took the socket and installed it in the garage and it has worked perfectly. Distance is only a problem for the pairing sequence, not the daily operation.

I love this product. I needed a way to control a recessed light that I have in my hallway with my Alexa. Installation is a breeze, if you know how to change a lightbulb you can install this product. You download the app set it to search for a new device then press a small button on the unit. It will connect to the app right away. After going through all the setup steps in the app I went to my Alexa app and added the new device, simple as that. Great product I have had it for about a week and it is working great.

Device constantly going offline.
I have two issues with this device.The first issue is after you set up the device and link it to Google, it counts as not one light but two lights which is annoying.The second issue is that the device does not consistently stay connected to to the Wi-Fi. I will go to use the device using a voice command and I will get an alert that the lights are offline. In order to correct it, I have to manually switch off the light and then back on.On a side note, this device will make it so that you cannot manually use the switch for the light. If you turn off the switch then the device definitely will not work as it is not getting any power. So you always have to leave the light on, and then when the device does not connect you have to walk through the dark to attempt a reset before doing the voice command again.Update 11/16/24: Amazon now lists this product as a frequently returned item. After making this review, the seller contacted me on their own offering a refund or replacement or an alternative product at no cost. They also tried troubleshooting the issues I mentioned. I took the refund. So at least their customer service could potentially be good if your product has issues.

Great when they work
I love coming home to lights on in the house, especially in the winter. My older home’s wiring is too odd to put on timer switches (I even paid an electrician to come out just to tell me he couldn’t figure out the wiring either), so these were a great option.Until they aren’t. Every few months, they just disconnect, and it takes forever to re-sync them. Once they’re re-upped, they work again just fine, until they don’t again. And if my experience is anything to go by, after about 18 months, there’s nothing you can do at all to get them to reconnect once they disconnect, and you have to buy new ones.I think I have to buy another one just to get it to work again. I hate to throw the other two (A and C) away, but neither of them will add in any socket anymore. (The pairing light does flash, and it looks like they are pairing, until it tells me that it failed.) I also hate to buy a different brand and have yet another app to deal with – unless I replace (B) as well, but then I’m getting rid of one that does work!I’ve never used this kind of smart technology before, so maybe 18-24 months is a normal lifespan, but I’m pretty annoyed because they aren’t the cheapest item to have to replace them.
