Fine powder, smells and tastes like blueberries, spirulina is last ingredent
Smells great, like blueberries. The powder is very very fine, so be careful when you open it and close so it doesn’t go everywhere. It is very blue.Taste is a mild berry flavour. You canât taste the spirulina in it, which makes it easy to add to dishes without worrying about clashing flavours. The one thing is the labeling. On the front, âBlue Spirulinaâ is above the other two, and in a larger font. The items name is âMavella Blue Spirulina Powder with Butterfly Pea Flower & Blueberryâ. The image in the listing has BLUE SPIRULINA POWDER on the top of the package. Yet the algae is the last ingredient, not the first.I think the other two ingredients are good additions, blueberries for flavour and the flowers for the pH colour changing. But it is misleading that there is actually less spirulina in here than the other two, and there is no way of knowing how much they actually included. For the price, I think it is a bit much for a product that could possibly have only a tiny amount of the algae in it.

Tasty color rich, color changing drink!
Once at a very nice hotel I had some ‘blue pea tea’ with our breakfast that I loved. So when I saw this come up, I jumped on it! And I’m glad I did. This is a pretty small bag, just 100 grams of powder, but each drink only needs a small amount of this potent powder, 1 gram, per serving. In my picture here, I put a gram and a half into a cup of cool water, since it’s a pretty large glass. I mixed it up with my frother, and then added ice. It mixed well, and it never settled out. I was surprised to see how strongly colored it was!Drinking it, it’s mostly blueberry flavored, mixed with a gentle flower taste. It’s really good.I was reading the bag while I was drinking it, and it suggested mixing in some lemon juice for a color changing effect. I got a slice of lemon, squeezed it in, and it slowly shifted from dark blue to a dark purple! My kids thought it was a neat effect, almost like a magic trick. I stirred it up and the entire drink turned a beautiful purple. Supposedly if you add more lemon juice it will go even lighter. I didn’t add a picture here, I’ll let you all buy it and see for yourself.I’ll be buying more when this runs out, it’s so good. $19 isn’t bad when it’s 70-100 servings, depending on how generous you scoop it out.

Be Glad You Only Taste Blueberries – Not a Good Source for Spirulina
First off, be glad all you can taste is the blueberries. Spirulina can be an acquired taste for many since it pretty much tastes like you’re eating or drinking a mouthful of seawater with a hint of rotten eggs or fish. Thankfully it is easy to mask the flavor, hence their addition of the berries.Spirulina is high in protein, something like 50 grams of protein in 100 grams of spirulina. Butterfly pea flowers are high in antioxidants but low in calories, carbs or protein. This is a 100 gram bag, but it says the “Avg. quantity per 100 g” is only 5.7 grams of protein. This leads me to believe that there are at best, trace amounts of spirulina and this is mostly a bag of blueberry powder.I think this is a fun addition for drinks and foods if you are trying to introduce yourself and/or your kids to eating healthy ‘colors’ in place of ‘beige’ foods. As an actual health ‘superfood’, I have my doubts and probably will not get this again.

Super Blue!
I bought this for my teenage daughter and she squealed and jumped up and down. She had been looking for something like this and was very excited to see that we had some. She is going through a weird homemade drink phase at the moment. Blue Spirulina, Butterfly Pea Flower and Blueberry would definitely take the prize for “weird” in my book, but YMMV. For the record, Butterfly Pea Flower is like a crazy superfood. It supposedly helps lower blood pressure among a host of other things. Definitey worth a try!

Makes drinks fun
I like that this is blue superfoods. It had just a hint of blueberry but I did add a scoop to a 28 water bottle. The flavor may be small in the amount of water but the color was not. It’s beautiful bright blue.I haven’t add to a smoothie yet, I may use if do pancake, waffles or muffins. It will give a fun look.It has great health benefits. I’ve never used anything with Blue Spirulina or Butterfly Pea Flower. I’ve heard of Blue Spirulina but didn’t know much about it. I like it’s an antioxidant.I like it’s low in sodium, carbs and sugar as I try and watch my intake on both.

Good addition to smoothies
I already know I donât like the taste of butterfly pea flower tea, so Iâm not trying this as a drink. But I have added it to blueberry and vanilla smoothies and didnât have any issue. I like the ingredients that can give my normal protein powder a boost and the flavour is good.

Healthy alternative to Blue Drinks and Smoothies
Homemade blue drinks and smoothies can be made healthier with this alternative. There was minimal aftertaste and it blended easily. The hues of the blue will be affected with whatever you will be blending it with. The first picture is with just water. The second picture is just right after blending it with monkfruit sugar. The third picture is after the monkfruit sugar being settled in, which looks similar to the first picture. With monkfruit sugar alone, you have an easy healthy low carb fruit drink that makes your kids intrigued and hopefully try, not knowing it’s also good for them.
