MedVance TM Collagen – Collagen Powder for Wounds, 1g per Pack (5 Pack)

Effective for Unique Wounds
I started using this Collagen Powder on my 2 right lower ankle wounds November 19, 2022. My woundsare not typical open sores, but more of a beefy, rashy wet mess at this point. I am a Retired RN/Clin Nurse Specialist taking care of these wounds since the community providers gave me MRSA with their lack of Sterile Technique & failure to clean wounds before applying new dressings. I noticed improvement after about 7 days of using these. 1 package will cover both sides of my ankle. I change dressings every 2 days. Since the wounds are located in difficult areas, & I have no help, I use sterile tongue blades, 1 at a time, to scoop out some of the sterile collagen powder, then gently place it on the inner ankle site. I keep adding more collagen, changing the tongue blades with each scoop so as not to cross contaminate, until the entire inner wound is covered. Then I do the same on the outer ankle. If there is serous (wet, oozing) drainage inside or along the edges of the site, I use a topical corticosteroid like betamethasone or triamcinolone first (let it thoroughly sink in), both of which work well with this collagen. This collagen sticks very well without any topicals. Of importance, is to prepare all supplies before beginning, so Everything is put on a sterile barrier on top of plastic on my bed-open tongue blades, Curad non sticks pads, etc. The Medvance Collagen Powder is off to 1 side as the outer wrapper is not sterile. After collagen applied, I put a few curad non sticks on top of the wound, then tape it onto skin with paper tape, until I complete the opposite side. I take pictures with my phone during these treatments to document progress. I attached 2 photos of the appearance of this collagen on my worst, inner ankle wound. 1 shows most of collagen on site, & other has fully covered it. 1 (layperson) person can do these topical collagen treatments once organized. There is no scent or taste to this collagen powder. I lick the residue off the side of package when I’m done with it, since this is quite expensive. This collagen is actually nice to work with, as it comes out of the package as a tiny “sheet”, & you can put it a lot on the wound at a time. No burning or pain associated with this collagen. After both sites are covered with collagen, Curad pad or Medvance foam pad, I cover them with 6×6 sterile pad or rolled gauze to hold everything on. Then I’m able to pull on my Jobst Compression stockings over top of those bulky dressings. If you cannot get a stocking up & over, try an alternative compression wrap called Comprilan. That wraps around your ankle & leg like an Ace bandage, but no clips. You must use tape. Us old foggies can do this process. Empty your bladder first & keep your water bottle handy as it can be labor intensive by yourself.

Product Not Resealable – No Way to Keep it Sterile
The powder comes in sterile packaging, which is great initially, but there is no way to reseal the package once it’s opened. This makes it impossible to keep the contents sterile after the first use. If the product is going to be packaged this way, it would make far more sense to offer it in much smaller, single-use portions. Instead, each packet contains enough powder for multiple uses, which is incredibly inconvenient and reflects very poor planning. Given the high price of this product, this should have been a key consideration. It feels like an oversight that could have been easily avoided and significantly impacts the product’s overall practicality and value.
