Works with aftermarket
This little device is pretty neat. I was looking for a way to get video streaming working in my car, which has aftermarket CarPlay, and this OTTOCAST Car TV Mate did the trick. It was easy enough to set up; you basically just plug in a streaming stick and connect it to the car’s USB port.The picture quality is surprisingly good. It supports up to 1080p, which looks sharp on my car’s screen. Streaming from apps like Netflix and YouTube works smoothly, and I haven’t experienced any noticeable lag or connection issues. It’s definitely a step up from trying to mirror my phone’s screen.Itâs worth noting that you need a separate remote to control the streaming stick, which isn’t included. But overall, if you have a car with wired CarPlay and you want to add video streaming, this is a solid option. Itâs made road trips a lot more entertaining.

Awesome device
First off, the description says this is for FACTORY INSTALLED car play, I have an aftermarket Kenwood car play deck in my 2004 Highlander and this works perfectly, so the description is inaccurate as it does work with aftermarket decks that are car play enabled.I got this because my wife and I enjoy watching things when we’re just sitting in the car and the weather doesn’t always allow for setting up the projector for the drive-in experience and because I work as a security guard and I’m usually posted in my car in a parking lot with time to watch content.I was skeptical about if this would work with my aftermarket stereo unit but was pleasantly surprised when I saw the fire stick logo pop in the screen. My screen is smaller but the picture quality was the same I would find on any of my other screens (phone, tablet, laptop, TV, or projector) and the sound came through the speakers on my car flawlessly. I have not tried it when on the road or away from my house and I have read other reviews where it would drop the content, which is due to their cellular/wifi connection, so I’m holding at 4 stars until I try it away from my home Wi-Fi signal BUT this drop off shouldn’t be an issue with download3d content from YouTube or Netflix, especially if it’s on my fire stick or the flashdrive with adapter i have for my fire stick.This is a game changing device for those who want a slightly bigger screen than their phone without having to have their tablet with them and is truly only limited by the vehicle screen size.I’m gonna try this in my 2015 Chevy Sonic just out of curiosity but I don’t expect it to work in that even though it has a stereo similar to car play, but if it does work I’ll update my review to say so.

WARNING BE AWARE NOT JOKING
If you are thinking about buying this product, I recommend not to this product is a scam so be prepared to return the item. I bought the ottocast and when it got delivered, I plugged it into my car. It worked for five seconds and then it stopped working. I continue to go further with the procedures that were instructed to update the product. Now it doesnât connect or work at all. I emailed and texted the company through messages on Instagram and yet have not received a reply within the past 2 weeks. At this point they just cared that they got paid. So I returned the item. DONâT WASTE YOUR TIME AND MONEY.

If you have a display in your car that has CarPlay it plugs in easily with a USB.Coverts the map to a great streaming device for my channels.It does require you to purchase or use a streaming device like a Firestick, Roku, etc. It is a very crisp and clear display. Great purchase.

I was not expecting this to only be hardwired
First of all this is a good unit, it does function. I guess I did not read the description clear enough, but it only accepts HDMI mini in. I guess i was thinking that wireless video Xfer was a little to much to ask out of such an inexpensive unit. So it does not really work for me, but it does work as intended.

I had no idea this existed until I was scrolling through Amazon one day.I had my husband read the description to make sure that I was seeing it correctly.If you have a display in your car that has CarPlay, a back up camera or something similar, it plugs in easily with a USB.I bought a fire stick and logged into my streaming channels and voila! I had a small streaming tv instead of a boring map.It does require you to purchase or use a streaming device you may already own like a Firestick.I believe it showed a Chromecast as well.I have Apple TV’s and wanted to use those, but it was going to be a lot of messing around and resetting up, so we chose not to. Especially since I’m not 100% that it can be used.This is the best tech device I’ve found in an extremely long time.We travel to a hospital in Jacksonville frequently and that’s a 4 hour drive.This will be fantastic on those drives.I normally turn the news on and stream just the sound.The only issue we had was live Hulu kept asking us where we were and cutting the app off. I know they do it for security, but it’s annoying.Obviously this is for passengers, not the driver.This is absolutely fantastic!

The OTTOCAST Car TV Mate is an awesome invention, another piece of technology that just wows me about what humans can do.In terms of this specific product itself, I think this is a cool little device. It allows you to convert your display screen in your vehicle into essentially a TV that plays streaming services. For it to work, you will need a Fire/Roku stick, its remote, WiFi or a hotspot from your cell phone, and a vehicle with a display screen that is CarPlay enabled. The device is not perfect. Obviously, it is depending on a strong WiFi or other internet signal. Some apps may not work when the vehicle is in motion. And it seems to work better on newer vehicles than older ones, at least for me. And, obviously, the driver should not be using it when the vehicle is in motion. But man, what a cool invention.
