New to cameras, loving reolink.
First time video doorbell user here, setup is very simple and straightforward with Reolink. App was easy to install on phone & computer. Setup for my front door took 30 mins, I wired the existing door chime to the Reolink camera and everything works as expected. The camera itself has many options and shows a clear picture quality. I did have to adjust the sensitivity pretty high to catch things like the mailman or package delivery. The home hub is a nice addition if you want to extend your wireless signal from your router with an encrypted signal and save your videos to a memory card. Setup was very simple and I had no issues. I’ve been using both devices for about 2 months now and I’ve never had any malfunctions or anything. Battery life for my doorbell camera is exceptional. While I don’t get much front door traffic, after two months the battery life is still over 90%.Only thing I encountered at first is upon initial install of the camera and home link, I had a very poor wifi signal and connection from the home link to camera, I’ve noticed other users reporting the same problems. Looking at the doorbell camera settings I realized the wifi was preset to the 5G signal, while superior in speed to 2.4G it has a much shorter range. So I switched the doorbell camera signal to 2.4G and the connection was spot on.I’d highly recommend this brand and camera setup.

Great Doorbell. Works with Alexa if…
You will need to enable the home hub from the Reolink app before you try and connect Alexa or Google to the doorbell. Very clear picture. I can see my doormat now so packages will be visible for sure.

The camera can reply automatically and I have local storage of recorded footage
I got a hub and doorbell camera with several accessories. In the package, I found an Ethernet cable, power adapter, and a 64 GB microSDXC card. There was also a backplate and some mounting hardware. I mounted my doorbell camera on a drill-less video doorbell mount and powered it with a 24-volt transformer – both the mount and transformer were not included.Setting up the hub was quick. I installed the Reolink app from the Google Play store, connected the hub to my router, and plugged it into an outlet. In the app, I tapped the plus sign to link the hub to my phone. I had three options: scan the QR code on the hub’s back, manually input the info, or do a LAN search. I chose to scan the QR code, and the app guided me through the initial setup.I inserted SD cards into both the hub (which has two slots) and the video doorbell camera. Adding the doorbell camera through the app was also quick. Both devices formatted the inserted SD cards automatically. The doorbell camera’s livestream image resembles a door peephole view, with a wide horizontal and vertical field. This allows me to check for packages left at my front door. The Reolink app lets me display the livestream in a small window over other apps. For night viewing, I can choose between automatic, black and white, or color mode. Since my front door area is well-lit, I opted for color mode. The app also offers auto-reply messages, including some seasonal themes like Halloween, though I haven’t seen any Christmas-themed ones yet.I can manually adjust the livestream bandwidth, choosing between clear, balanced, and fluent modes, with fluent using the least bandwidth. The app also allows me to manually capture images or record the livestream.

Reolink is among my new favorites
I’ve never heard of Reolink before, but came across this. We’d been utilizing a doorbell cam from our security company, but I was getting sick of paying the exorbitant fees they are charging and wanted to look at my own home solution. I’d never heard of Reolink before, but at just over $200, this looked like a great solution and offered pretty much all the features I was hoping to have. These include:- At least a 1080p resolution- local storage with no monthly fee requirement- expandable memory storage option- 5 ghz wifi- AI detection- Large viewing angles- Easy installThe install process was not difficult at all. I was able to remove the previous doorbell, change the wiring to this one, and then screw it on with the included Reolink mount. It was really easy, and is exactly what I was hoping for. The app then walks you through the setup process, including connecting to your wifi network, and then running through the various tests of the doorbell to verify correct functionality. All in all, the video resolution looks good, and has been great at capturing motion on my porch. I do have a good view of the street from my doorbell, so I did have to make some adjustments to distance and such to not have the thing essentially recording almost all day long. There are lots of settings options in the app, and I feel it is, overall, pretty well designed. Definitely worth a look, and I am now considering Reolink for other camera replacements around my home.

I probably would never have encountered the REOLINK Video Doorbell system had I not been offered the opportunity to participate in the Vine program. But I’m very glad I did.Having never used this form of doorbell before I was ,as usual, concerned that something would go wrong in the installation process and the ,’now what do I need to do to make this work’ scenario would be at hand. I’m OK technically, but not to the extent that I can usually troubleshoot uncertain connection issues. But nothing did go wrong. The instructions for both the video doorbell and the Home Hub storage unit were perfectly clear and step-by-step perfect. In reading other reviews I noted that others had far more difficulty due to multiple camera set-ups, wi-fi issues, or older generation technology, so that is certainly a consideration, but for me this was a completely seamless process. Of course it always takes a while to be familiar with the exact mechanisms and options involved but nothing at all out of the ordinary caused any issues. As always I urge reading of the other previous reviews who have very well covered some of the important technical aspects of the REOLINK system. I am not going to repeat them again here. I have a very basic home operation with just the one camera and the further connection to the Home Hub for additional storage capacity and security of data, and it works flawlessly. I have posted a series of photos taken at various times during the day and night to show the outstanding quality of the image you will get and to show the operation of the night-time infrared camera system. Honestly the video doorbell component of this package offer is perfect for my needs and could easily be for yours as well, and considering the history of REOLINK and this type of product, after market support should be at least available. The second part of this package offer is the REOLINK Home Hub. This is probably for most limited users not something that they will need so much as want. It’s essentially a storage unit for video captures from the camera and adds a level of security to your doorbell network. It’s always better to not have data stored exclusively on the doorbell camera since the camera can be removed and there go your files. As I mentioned I had no issues in either initiating the Home Hub or connecting it to the camera itself. Again the provided instruction manuals led me step by step from beginning to end. I have not played with the many sensitivity settings allowed via the Home Hub but this system can be ‘scene’ adjusted to suit the level of warning and observation that you feel is required for your situation. All in all , I can easily recommend this REOLINK package to anyone looking for a more secure home environment without the onerous demands of an ongoing monthly charge.I will also say that as of this date (Nov 18/24) a promotional discount is on offer. $279.99 LESS $56.00, which is both a decent discount in itself for the products, but also represents a further package discount when both items are purchased together. The only possibly negative thing I will note is something that was mentioned in a more favourable light, in another review. The packaging. While it is very secure, I found it to be excessive. In this age of trying to cut down on generated waste, surely a mere handful of components could be packaged in FAR less material. I have uploaded a photo of all the packaging that is involved here. If this could be reduced at all going forward, everyone would benefit, imo.
Vine Review –
I decided to ditch my current brand-name, subscription-based video doorbell for this new Reolink 2K video door bell, and with the exception of a few performance issues, am generally happy.Let’s first talk about what’s working well: the build quality is superb, solid and perfectly weather-sealed. It has been lashed with a heavy overnight rain storm, and it kept on ticking with no outage or video issues. Initial setup was so much easier than other video doorbell brands, literally got it up and running in 1 to 2 minutes at most, which includes connecting it to the app and wifi. I also setup the Home Hub, and then added the video doorbell to it, which was also seamless and quick. This video doorbell also works flawlessly controlling my existing hardwired mechanical doorbell chime. For the video quality, the 2K resolution in 1:1 ratio provides good clarity, but with a pronounced fisheye effect that takes some getting used to. For my frontdoor setup, it’s narrow where a large percentage of the left/right view captures the sides of the door and wall, which is a waste. I do wish Reolink allows the user to crop into the usable part of the view, like other video doorbell brands. Now with the not-so-good:First – about 1 or 2 times out of every 10 times when I access the realtime video feed, it would not play (just a spinning wheel). After shutting down the app and restart, the feed typically works. Accessing the video feed typically takes about 2 to 5 seconds, a few times up to 10 seconds.Second – I have this Reolink hardwired into the existing doorbell powerline, which outputs 22V at the transformer, and slightly below 22V at the front door where Reolink is connected. This should have provided plenty power to trickle charge the battery of the doorbell. However, I’m seeing some weird behaviours. First, when I frequently accessed the video feed through my phone’s app and via laptop web client, the battery quickly drained from 100% to 20%, which I expect to be trickle charged overnight or over the course of a day or two. But, over the next day or so, the battery continued to drain to 8 to 9%, resulting in warnings about needing to recharge the battery. I verified that WiFi strength (set to 2.4Ghz) was full strength. Thinking the reason was that the sensitivity parameters were set too high (i.e., triggering too many detections), I lowered them substantially as well as reducing the video view resolution to “Fluent”, but the battery continued to drain while the doorbell only actuated about 10 detections and push notifications per day. On only 2 occassions did I notice a tiny “charging” indicator (I think that’s what it was) next to the video doorbell’s battery icon in the app, which then I saw the battery % had increased by at most 2% over an hour or so, before the trickle charging seemingly stopped on its own (no charging indicator beside the battery icon). The battery was never able to recharge back up to 100% — even after I covered the camera completely for 1 full day. When I charged the doorbell via USB-C cable, it has not problem charging to 100%. At the time of writing this review, I’m continuing to troubleshoot.A heads up – disable your option to use hardware acceleration when playing back video, if you are having problem viewing event history or viewing via playback. Initially, I was not able to effectively use the playback function in the app or view Event History immediately after I received a push notification, as the video simply did not play. Disabling this hardware acceleration option resolved this issue for viewing Event history, but I’m still viewing Playback through the camera app.Another point of frustration is that I had to extensively experiment with settings for the multiple parameters to get a decently accurate detection rate while minimizing false detections. This was much more effort vs. other video doorbell brands, as my preceding brand was substantially easier to setup and achieve very high accuracy out of the box, and zero issues with viewing the recorded videos.

I have used REOLINK security cameras before and I have always been very happy with anything made by REOLINK. When I saw this doorbell with the hub, I had to get it. The hub is compatible with the cameras I already have. The doorbell and hub arrived very well packaged which is the case with all REOLINK products. They take pride in their packaging and they are very giftable.Set up is very easy by scanning the QR codes on the hub and the doorbell. Following the instructions on the app was simple and worked well.Once the doorbell is installed on the hub you are presented with some pretty amazing video. The quality is great. The hub worked well with my existing camera and it’s nice having both the doorbell and the camera store the video and images locally so I do not need to pay for cloud storage. You can put up to 2 micro SD cards up to 512 MB each in the hub and the doorbell comes with a preinstalled 64 Gig Micro SD card. You can set up the doorbell to notify you if it detects any motion and notify you on your phone. You can also have 2-way conversations with people that come to your door.Night vision works great and you can see even when it is dark. The video shows from head to toe for anyone who comes to the door. When the doorbell rings the hub and your phone ring. You can also get extra chimes to install in your home if you want which will ring when the doorbell is pressed.I am very happy with this doorbell and hub by Reolink. They work as expected and are loaded with too many features to discuss in this review. The price is very fair for the quality and features you get and I do recommend this.

Update 2024-11-24: Since the review has been posted, the battery consumption has been a lot better. I now average 2% per day. Nothing changed in my setup. The only difference is the active time is now around 20 minutes per day instead of 50. I can now average 5 weeks between charge instead of 2.- Original review -The REOLINK Video Doorbell can operate in both battery and wired mode. In battery mode, it’s similar to every other battery operated camera. It’s no good. It start recording way too late and some scenes of me entering or leaving the house is entirely missing. When plugged in, every event recorded has a 6 second pre-roll so it’s a lot more useful.Wired installation is fairly painless. You’ll just need some luck and a multimeter. Once you remove the existing door bell, use the multimeter set to AC to take a quick reading to make sure it’s between 12 and 24V. If it is, go turn off the breaker to the door bel, remove the old door bell, install the mounting bracket, connect the wire and you’re done. The doorbell has an SD Card slot for local storage but it can also record to the Home hub. The Home bub act as a central camera management, it has 2 Micro SD Slot to store video recording, it act as a door bell shime and it’s double as a 2.4G/5G Wifi Access Point. It’s similar to what the Eufy Home Base can do but the Home Base can do more. The idea is to have the home hub located near the camera so that the cameras can use the faster 5.4Ghz band. As opose to 2.4Ghz which has very long range, the 5.4Ghz can barely maintain signal after passing through a single wall. If you have a large house with thick insulated exterior walls, you will most likely need this hub for the door bell to be able to work on the 5.4Ghz band. Sadly, unless your main router is located near the entrance, you will have to run an ethernet cable back to it. The alternative is to use some powerline adapter but that’s an extra $100 for good ones. My main router is in the basement. That’s where the cable for my ISB comes in. I have a second access point on the main floor however, I am getting only 1 bar outside the house where the door bell need to be. I already use power line adapter across the house so I added one near the entrance and hooked this up.The quality of the video is not great since it’s a 2k camera but stretched over a very large field of view. You wonât be able to make out a license plate from more than 15 feet away. Shadows pose a significant challenge as well. Under certain lighting conditions, the faces of people walking toward the camera may appear as silhouettes obscured by shadows. When comparing with other video doorbell, it’s not bad. Most of them also suffer from the same flaws. As per the battery life, it will depend on the amount of foot trafic in front of the camera and the signal strength of the wifi. It’s slightly worse when the door bell has a weak signal as it will spend more time transmitting. In my setup, I anticipate the battery will drop to zero in around 20 days. It’s an average of 5% per day. This is very far from the 6 months REOLINK advertise so be ready if you were planning to use this as a battery operated doorbell. My daily average is 5 minutes and 44 seconds of video recording with an active time of 49 minutes. The active time is the total amount of time the doorbell is busy processing data. This include maintaining it’s WIFI connection, detecting event, running it’s AI and, recording and transmitting the video. Obviously, if you live in a lesser active street, you can have significantly better battery life.Over all, it’s a good video doorbell but only if it’s wired. As a battery Video Doorbell, it’s not very reliable but it is still useful as a two way speaker and you do get package detection.

I recently tried out this video doorbell with a home hub, and overall, itâs been a smooth and practical addition to my home. The setup was a breeze âit took me just about five minutes. The app guided me through the entire process, and the doorbell itself gave step-by-step audio instructions, which made things even easier. The build quality of the doorbell feels premium. Itâs sleek but slightly on the thicker side, which gives it a sturdy, durable feel. The video quality is excellent. It offers a full view of my front door area, capturing everything from packages on the ground to the faces of visitors. Even at night, the automatic night vision kicks in seamlessly, delivering sharp and clear images, so identifying people or movements in low light is no problem. One feature I find particularly useful is the motion detection. Itâs incredibly reliable, sending me notifications for people, vehicles, or even when packages are delivered. For example, Iâve used it to monitor package deliveries, ensuring I know exactly when they arrive. If thereâs ever an issue, like a missing package, the recorded footage could easily help resolve it.The doorbellâs video call feature works flawlessly too. Anytime someone rings, I get an instant alert on my phone, allowing me to either talk to them directly or send a quick pre-set reply. Itâs super handy when Iâm not home, as I can still communicate with visitors or delivery drivers.A standout feature for me is the local storage option. Instead of paying for a subscription, you can insert a microSD card (up to 256GB) to store recordings locally. This saves on extra costs and keeps everything secure, even during a network outage. For those who prefer not to rely on cloud services, this is a big plus.Lastly, the integration with the home hub is seamless. The hub connects directly to my router via Ethernet, providing a stable connection and additional storage options.
