Nice car mount with one complaint
I know it’s not fair, but I expect SmallRig to always be excellent with their products. I own a bunch of their stuff and they have’t failed me yet. This car mount is good, but I feel there is one thing that they should have done to make it great. Whenever you put a suction cup mount with an expensive camera on your car, there needs to be the highest quality suction cups. These are good, but they need the button that sucks out the air where you can visually see that it is mounted correctly. Though these do have a lever mechanism that likely does something similar, I need to be able to quickly see if the suction is still there or not. I am not taking a chance mounting my expensive camera on my car otherwise. I know having 3 suction cups minimizes the risk, but there is still a risk.

SmallRig Quality Shines!
I have another unit very similar to this one. Although it adheres just as good as this one, the extended arm suffers with severe motion and bounce. This unit from SmallRig does not share that regret. I have found that even when full extended, I get minimal shake and bounce and have, in turn, received significantly more usable video. Quality construction with quality materials just as you expect from SmallRig.

Won’t fall off!
For anyone mounting an expensive camera to this, the number one concern is whether or not it will fall off. I’m here to say that it won’t, as long as you have it mounted to a clean smooth surface like glass. The suction cups are very strong, with a lever that pressurizes it to the surface its being mounted on. As you can see in the photo, there are three of them. It’s so strong, you cannot pull if off physically, without releasing the pressure first. Moreover, the suction cups come with a protective cover when storing, so they don’t become deformed, dirty or compromised. The entire rig breaks down into 4 components for quick stowage in your camera bag. The only thing that could possibly make this better, and this is not a criticism, is if the individual suction cups also included a built-in magnet. That would facilitate mounting on the hood or roof of a vehicle that much more reliable. Overall, this is a first rate vehicle mount that I have full trust in staying put, no matter how bumpy the road.
