The Tamron 28-75mm F/2.8 Di III VXD G2 (Model A063) provides outstanding resolution and superb overall performance in a lightweight and compact zoom lens for Sony E-mount full-frame mirrorless cameras. High definition and spectacular image quality are the key areas of advancements. The Model A063 features a redesigned optical system but maintains a size similar to its predecessor. The lens provides exceptionally strong optical performance, edge-to-edge across the frame, throughout the entire zoom range, along with the soft, beautiful bokeh effects that are distinctive to fast aperture lenses. The lens features Tamron’s VXD autofocus motor to enable high speed, high precision auto-focusing. Closeup shooting capabilities have also been improved and achieve an MOD of 7.1” at 28mm and a maximum image magnification ratio of 1:2.7. It is equipped with new, groundbreaking features that enable users to easily perform customization and firmware updates themselves, without purchasing the Tamron TAP-in Console.* For example, users can reverse the direction of the focus ring for manual focus operation. Additionally, Tamron has adopted a new design with improved ergonomics and revised the exterior coating of the lens body to improve scratch resistance. The filter size is 67mm, which is standard among Tamron’s fast aperture zoom lens series and enables the sharing of lens caps, filters, and other accessories. In addition to features such as Moisture-Resistant Construction and a protective Fluorine Coating, the lens supports various features built into Sony E-Mount cameras, including Fast Hybrid AF, Eye AF and in-camera lens corrections (shading, chromatic aberration, distortion).
Fast, quiet VXD linear motor for high-speed and high-precision autofocus
MOD (Minimum Object Distance) of 7.1” at wide end and maximum magnification ratio of 1:2.7 for creative close-ups
New design provides enhanced texture and greater user-friendliness
Compact at 4.6″ long and weighing just 19 oz
Moisture-Resistant Construction and Fluorine Coating

Probably one of the best zoom lens on the market.
I find myself gravitating towards grabbing this lens and usually keeping it in my bag or on my camera for a variety of photoshoots.I do a lot of portraiture on-location, and the zoom allows me to quickly adjust in-camera versus cropping later.Build quality:Not overly heavy, has both manual zoom and a manual focus ring. Has a USB-C right on it to update the firmware directly versus through having the camera plugged in.Autofocus:It struggles a little in lower-light situations, or when there are foreground elements but in these artistic shots, you want to be manually focusing anyways.Clarity/Sharpness:For pixel peepers, you are going to run into some chromatic aberrations. This isn’t going to be as crisp as a prime lens, either. However, for a zoom lens it does really well.Weather seal:Doesn’t seem to have much in terms of a weather seal, I found some dust on my camera sensor after leaving this lens on the body for a couple of days.Would I recommend this lens? Yes. This is a great lens especially for when you need to pack light, or can’t bring a variety of prime lens. Being able to go from 28mm-70mm allows for a large range of different compositions you can create with a single lens. This is great for both landscapes, architecture, and portraits. For wildlife, I would probably recommend the 70-200mm lens instead.

Size does matter
I went back and forth for months on what I wanted as my go to lens for when I am only taking one lens with me when out and about. And, after wearing a few different lenses around my neck, I have confidently settled on this Tamron 28-75mm G2 for my Sony A7 IV. The quality and function of the lens is outstanding, and the G2 improvements make it serious competition for Sigma and Sony equivalents. Not to mention the Tamron is the best price of all the lenses mentioned. But one of the main reasons I settled on this lens, other than the focal lengths, is the size and weight. The A7 IV with this lens is light and comfortable to carry around for hours (with a good strap). I was really surprised at how much of a difference it made in my approach to photography, not having unnecessary weight strapped to me. Size and weight absolutely do matter, even when it is just a pound or two. I also considered the Tamron 35-150mm, but that is a bigger and heavier lens too. I have already added the Tamron 70-180mm to my bag for more complete coverage when I am out with a bigger bag of equipment.

I bought a used one…on purpose
I was able to buy the used version for $150 cheaper and it came in “like new” condition. I couldn’t even tell anyone had opened this or handled it previously. I knew it was a gamble but knowing I could return it if I didn’t like it, made it worth the gamble. No scratches, dust, mildew or anything. Was worth it to save a few bucks….but now I want another lens and that extra money won’t last long…

love tamron
i have to buy new lenses with all the new quality built into them and with tamron you get 6 years of warranty as well. i have only had to send one back for repair and i never checked but i think i got a new lens in return. the price is right and the variations are many in the tamron name. this is the newest generation of lens. while it is a relatively short zoom, it has an f stop of 2.8 and is priced great.
