5 stars!
Iâve always been a fan of TP-Link products, and the Tapo camera did not disappoint! Itâs incredibly easy to set up, even for someone who isnât tech-savvy. The camera is packed with features that many competitors donât offer, all at an unbeatable price. The video quality is excellent, and the app is intuitive and user-friendly.Iâve trusted TP-Link for over 15 yearsâmy home router has always been TP-Link, and I stick with them whenever I upgrade. Recently, I converted all my homeâs light bulbs to TP-Link color smart bulbs, as well as my AC outlets. Adding the Tapo camera to my collection just made sense, and itâs proven to be another reliable, high-quality product from a brand I trust. Highly recommended!

Goodbye Wyze, hello Tapo!
Iâll be writing this on all the Tapo cameras Iâve recently purchased. (4x C110, 2x C210, 2x C520WS)These are flawless, amazing, and so far ahead of Wyze itâs not even funny. They are massively affordable, truly need no subscription, have fantastic features in their app, can record locally to an SD card; everything you would want. Coming from Wyze (see more below), I didnât know that cameras were supposed to act like this. I assumed, at Wyze prices, that I was getting what I paid for. But when I finally had enough constant stress and spent the money to change to Tapo⦠my life has been changed. Seriously, I probably added years to my life not being so stressed out all the time because my cameras never, ever worked right. These do, and I cannot say it enough times⦠if youâre currently using Wyze then get one of these. Use it for a week side-by-side and tell me what you think.Super light, have a few of mine mounted with âhard plastic velcroâ (3M Dual Lock). Setup is fast and easy, and works right away. Donât have to do it over and over again (Wyze). Clarity is superb – 1440p quality. Night vision is phenomenal. Donât really care about âcolorâ night vision – but my outdoor ones do have it. And one of the best parts is Tapo is part of TP-Link. What does that mean? TP-Link has been around for a very long time, and they specialize in networking equipment, LoL. So yeah, if you want a reliable camera on your network, who better to trust than a networking company.TLDR: Donât waste your time on any other brand. Buy these. I promise you wonât regret it.About Wyze:If youâre like me and never wanted to spend thousands on home monitoring and security, then you may have stumbled upon Wyze cameras. At first, they were amazing – very affordable with no subscription necessary. And they worked. Over time, that changed drastically as they ventured into making everything else on the planet instead of focusing on their roots (cameras). They funded that stuff by changing to a subscription policy. And in their haste had multiple security breaches and problems such as other people viewing cameras that arenât theirs. This is of course while the software and hardware has become so incredibly bad that theyâre unusable. I mean, they actually do not function 92% of the time. Whether itâs freezing, not connecting, stuttering so bad that it looks like a PowerPoint presentation, app for closing, etc.

Great Cameras – Awesome App
I have been in the market for a decent camera for quite some time. Years even. Finally, it appears I found one that deliversI tried many many brands of cameras. The vast majority of them being other cheaper off- brand cameras. Most of them didnât work right out of the box to failing just under a year of use. Most apps were clunky at best.Enter Tapo cameras. Easy to set up. Great app features. The Tapo app is extremely easy to understand and is thoughtfully designed. Tp-link actually manufactures the Tapo products. And TP-Link has been a very reputable brand over the years. The cameras themselves are good. Good clarity and great night time vision. I appreciate the ability to insert a physical micro sd card for video storage. You arenât forced into some cloud service for that ability (although it is available if you want it). And yes, you can access all of the sd card footage from the app. There are only a couple of quibbles I have with these. If power goes out, the cameras do need to be manually adjusted back to their âhomeâ position once power is restored. It would be infinitely helpful if there was an actual âhome positionâ setting to commit the cameras to. So they will go back to this position in the event of a power outage. Itâs annoying because all of your settings pretty much rely on this home position to function as desiredThe other quibble is if the WiFi ever changes the cameras have to be removed from your app and re-added to change what WiFi they are connected to. There really should be a WiFi change option in the app to handle this easily.Other than those two things I really appreciate how well these work. The motion tracking option isnât bad (itâs not great though often moving too slow to keep up with the target). But it does move fast enough to keep the target within the field of view longer than a stationary camera would. The alarm function is nifty too. Set on a schedule (I have mine set at night) it will produce any number of variables like flashing lights and alert sirens if it detects people in the area. Good little feature to have to scare away someone if they think they just set off an alarm. Alternatively you can upload your own sound clip if you want verbal feedback towards your intended target. All in all these are great cameras. Now to see how they function in the long term.EDIT: After writing this review, I found in the app that you can set up to 3 different views for each camera as sort of a “pre-set”. So, this makes it slightly less combersome to move the cameras back to the home position should they need to be manually moved back. Also it’s noteworthy to mention that shadows will set these cameras off no matter what the sensitivity settings are set to. So, on windy days the cameras are all over the place trying to chase the shadows. Also, this prevents them from returning back to the “home” position. Speaking of how they move, they are super clunky in their movements. Making motion tracking difficult for them to keep up with anything moving slower than a slow walk. I think the tracking should be sped up for this. Also, motion tracking does not work if motion is turned off. So if you just want it to track “people” it can’t. Seems like an easy thing to implement if you want to void shadow tracking and only want people to be tracked.

Excellent Products, Outstanding Customer ServiceAfter starting with a competitive (and yes, cheaper) competitor’s camera, I decided to try Tapo because I have several TP-Link devices and a WiFi router already installed in my house, and they have performed flawlessly.Good decision! My first Tapo camera choice was a wired C510W, which I wanted for our front porch, This Pan/Tilt camera is very well constructed, and easy to install. (Tapo even provided an extra screw. Who hasn’t had a dropped/lost screw turn an easy install into an unfinished nightmare?) Once installed and connected, it worked almost exactly as expected, and provided excellent video. One minor shortcoming is that the “person detect” function applies some sort of AI processing after the camera has detected motion, so you cannot easily limit recordings only to people. Turning on motion detection means capturing any movement first, and then post-processing to see if people were captured. Generated lots of recordings without people in my case. Still, really great camera controls and filters and settings to help minimize false event recording, which I did eventually master. Good notification tools and easy controls and access to review recorded video without wasting a lot of time searching. EXCELLENT camera!Another good indication of the company’s thinking is the web-based optional service provided free for the first month with the camera purchase. When the one-month trial ends, the service is terminated by default (!), so you are not automatically enrolled in the service with recurring costs every month. Easy to subscribe and keep it going, of course. My second camera was a fully wireless C425 with an integrated PIR motion detector to specifically identify and capture people or pets, to monitor comings and goings of animals in our back yard.Again, easy to install and connect, and again, a spare screw for the fumble-fingered amon us. The PIR makes recording of animals and people a breeze. The battery life is very good so far, although I have a lot of squirrels in the yard, so the camera wakes up often. Still, after three weeks of recording squirrels abd rabbits, the battery is still at 83%, more than meeting my expectations.Totally satisfied with the PIR funcionality and the camera features overall. Another W=EXCELLENT camera. As a final note, Tapo’s customer service has been simply outstanding. Quick, knowledgable, relevant responses, and an obvious commitment to customer satisfaction make this arguably the best company I’ve ever dealt with when it comes to customer support. This review is uncompensated, and posted to each of the two cameras mentioned.
