Great Technology – Not supported by all Cable Companies
We’ve been TiVo users for as long as there have been TiVos, so we’re not unbiased. The Edge is the best product they have made with lots of storage ad a wonderfully easy-to-use UI. Check with your cable company before buying, though. This requires a ‘multi-channel cable card’ to decode the signal from the cable company, but the cable companies are no longer required to support this. Without the cable card, this is a boat anchor.

Unreliable
Unfortunately, we’re having to re do this review due to issues. The Edge looks good in HDR upscale mode but hazy with that feature turned off. It’s watchable in that mode but not as clean as the non HDR TiVo Bolt this unit replaces. Often the screen goes inexplicably black for about 3 seconds. The new menu screens are ok but maybe not quite as user friendly as the previous ones so it takes a little time with the leaning curve. Some screen functions respond slowly. In our system, Spectrum, the carrier requires an external tuner adapter in addition to the internal cable card and the two do not work well together. The adapter and TiVo must be periodically restarted to work properly. The other issue concerns rebooting. It has a bad habit of suddenly rebooting and has done it several times. We’ve only had the Edge since mid April, 2021. Very frustrated with it and filing a trouble ticket with Tivo since we are out of Amazon’s return window it but would have by now if we could. The lack of reliability changes our rating to not recommended. You will want a different DVR for cable if you wish to go 3rd party. We also have the Spectrum DVR as a back up and it has proven to be flawless and reliable. Not happy at all with TiVo at this point. Very disappointed in it because we really like some of the new features. Best of them is the automatic commercial skip. After some time with the unit, we will continue to use it and hope TiVo will update firmware and improve the operations. Overall and with all the glitches, what would otherwise be a fantastic unit is just mediocre at best. Can not recommend until the company gets a handle on all itâs problems. Tech support is very poor when it comes to these issues. Weâre hoping TiVo will listen to the issues and address them for better operation of the Edge. Our Spectrum cable tech tells me they have more trouble with TiVo products and it ties up there time and resources to address the issues, many times without resolve. It would not be surprising to see the cable company stop provision for or allow TiVo products. It cost them, and ultimately the customer, too much to constantly troubleshoot the issues. What could have been a great product is a huge disappointment.Update. Now it is struggling with connecting to the servers but I suspect that is an issue with TiVo. Worse, the remote app has been plagued with connection issues. Would never have gotten into this unit had I known all the trouble we would have. It’s out of warranty so we’re suffering with it for now. Customer service is horrible!Update II: Rebooting issue continues. Since the unit is out of warranty, I replaced the hard drive, same make, type and size, 2tb. No improvement. Rebooting issue continues and new glitch causes reboot when trying to progrramme an additional TiVo remote control. Honestly we should have just kept the Bolt and stuck with that even though the Edge has HDR and auto skip. Will use it until it dies but I honestly believe the motherboard is bad. TiVo support is no help. Their CSRs just repeat the same thing over and over with no other help. To reiterate, do not buy the TiVo Edge. It’s a poorly designed and poorly functioning device.

Excellent replacement for Cable DVR
I have Spectrum cable in my area and their DVR boxes are ancient, they just will not update their DVRs so they are garbage with only 2 tuners and no multi-room solution. I love my Tivos, I have had the Roamio, Bolt, Bolt Vox, and now Edge. Nothing beats the Tivo experience with the commercial skipping on just about every show including ones that aren’t on the main networks (eg Discovery Channel). I love the 2TB because I can set timers for a lot of shows or movies and not having to worry about filling up soon. The only thing I wish they included the backlit lux remote for the Edge Cable (they included it on the Edge OTA which doesn’t make sense to me). The voice remote is really nice and really accurate, makes it super easy to find shows, movies, and launch apps. You can install many apps like Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Video, Youtube, Plex, and more. Tivo Edge works pretty well with the Tivo Mini Vox, only a few hiccups occasionally. Overall I love my Tivo Edge.

Edge Pagued with hardware issues
I’ve been a Tivo subscriber since the company was started. I’ve had good luck with hardware up to this product. I’ve had close to every model they made. Sony, Series 1 – 2, Premier and Roamio. I’ve had to replace the Premier once and just recently my Roamio died. I’m not disappointed in these units, they performed well considering they run 24x7x365.The Edge however is extremely expensive and of significant less quality. I Purchased the Edge in Dec 2019 and it completely died the following March around 3 months. I had to argue, and argue and argue to get Tivio to send me a replacement free of charge, At the time of purchase the Edge was $400. I was not going down without a fight. The OEM warranty was only 90 days and just went past this date by a few weeks. Finally after a very heated argument with Tivo, they sent me a new unit (not refurb). After a few months the “new” edge they sent me failed in the exact same way. My suspicion is that the Hard Drives they use are defective. This is a common issue with mechanical hard drives. Again I had to call Tivo and argue for a replacement. They refused to send me a new unit. After yet another very difficult argument and management escalation the agreed to send me a refurb for $25 plus shipping. We shall see if the reburb units are better. If they keep putting the same hard drives in the refurb units, I expect I will be back on the line with Tivo again.*** Read ***If you buy an Edge from Amazon, Tivo will fight like hell to get out of any warranty replacement. If you buy from Tivo directly they have a special Tivo warranty which will enable you to get a replacement for a significantly low cost. *SO* If you buy from Amazon, you should purchase the Amazon warranty add on. It will make life easier. In all I’m a fan of Tivo but the company is not the same. The product is not as reliable as it used to be. There are nice features in Tivo and I can’t imagine having Cable with out it; however, there are still plenty of bugs in the software. As I’m writing this review the Amazon Prime Video App is crashing on the unit. sigh….Why am I still using it? Because I’ve had Tivo so long I can’t watch cable without it. Buyer beware. All you hardcore Bolt or Roamio users looking to upgrade… You know what I’m talking about. Right? Not the same company as it used to be…

Says it works with cable if they support the cable card which my company did and couldn’t get it to work so sent back
